Default Engines and clutches

So why do these karts run this snowmobile style clutch. Mini stock cars with 22hp gx390 engines run a Barnett dry centrifugal clutch. I just bought my first cart and after 5 minutes of riding with brand new belt it tore all teeth off of belt..... Is there something wrong with my clutch?

All of the jr1's do that, the belts always burn/shread off. While The Jr2's dont do that often. It is just the style of the clutch.

So at 40 bucks a belt I just stop my kid every 5 minutes and change the belt?

We only used 3 belts a race day. The sessions were from 8-12 minutes long.

U both have something wrong with ur karts, either the belt is binding, not aligned, a problem with the clutch, to much drag in the rear axle or the child is riding the brake while driving, belts last way longer than 15 min! I took my daughter testing last weekend and she drove for a total of 1 hour on a used belt and it still looks new!
Check and make sure the belt is streight between drive and driven clutch, make sure driven clutch is free, make sure axle bearings are luved and free, check all rollers and chain guides and than make sure they only have there foot on the brake to stop! Hope that helps.

We used to have that problem. Could be many things but the obvious ones are alignment, riding brakes, improper springs, or just plain broken/worn out clutch parts.

The driven should be running a blue spring on hole 1. It needs to move smooth in and out as well as rotationally. If there is any binding in the driven it will stop shifting before the drive does and that will kill the belt very quickly. Also if the buttons or cam plate are too worn you get binding.

If you use an orange spring it will bind.

On the drive clutch the springs wear out pretty quickly. That won't cause belt prob though, it just won't go anywhere. The drive clutch sheave halves have braze joints that break and cause half of the clutch to not pull. That causes belt problems.

I would say if u had the $ upgrade to a jr2. Never have to worry as much to change the belts or always having to carburate the carburator.
